Product description
Tamahagane steel is made from iron sand and is mainly used to make swords.
This material is traditionally made by building a large clay oven, called a tatara, and heating it to around 1800 degrees Fahrenheit.
The iron sand mixes with the charcoal used to fuel the oven, imparting carbon to the steel and making it suitable for knives and swords.
It is a technical process, and they still produce steel using this method, partly to keep the tradition alive.
