Product description
The Japanese cuisine is expanding more and more into the Western world.
Not only are the individual dishes becoming increasingly popular, but also the cooking methods.
This also includes the different types of grills.
Particularly fascinating are the small and large table grills like the Japanese Konro Grill.
A traditional Konro Grill consists of diatoms.
Over millions of years, these were compressed under the pressure of the sea around Suzu into a heat-insulating stone.
The basis for the algae growth was the mineral-rich water, enriched by volcanic activity.
The environment was very conducive to the growth of algae, leading to a significant, yet consistent growth of algae.
The large amount of algae depleted the nutrients and restricted light penetration in the former lake.
Due to the lack of photosynthesis, large quantities of algae died.
The remains sank to the seabed and either became a source of nutrients for new generations of diatoms or part of the massive diatomaceous scale that exists in the Sea of Japan today.
This resulted in so-called diatomaceous earth.
Although the earth is highly porous when extracted, it also has low density.
As a result, the material can develop sponge-like properties while having excellent insulating properties.
It is also heat-resistant, even at particularly high temperatures.
Thus, it embodies all the qualities a light table grill should have!
Japanese craftsmanship shines in the production of these grills.
They are handmade and therefore constantly checked for their excellent quality.
