Product description

The Japanese cuisine is increasingly expanding to the Western world. Not only are the individual dishes becoming more and more popular, but also the methods of preparation. This also includes the different types of grills. Particularly fascinating are the small and large table grills like the Japanese Konro Grill.

A traditional Konro Grill is made of diatoms. Over millions of years, these were compressed under the pressure of the sea around Suzu into a heat-insulating stone. The basis for algae growth was the mineral-rich water, enriched by volcanic activity. The environment was very conducive to algae growth, resulting in a huge but also consistent growth of algae. The large amount of algae depleted the nutrients and limited light penetration in the former lake. Due to the lack of photosynthesis, large amounts of algae died. The remains sank to the seabed and either became a source of nutrients for new generations of diatoms or part of the enormous diatom scale that exists today in the Sea of Japan. This resulted in so-called diatomaceous earth. Although the earth is very porous when extracted, it also has a low density. This allows the material to simultaneously develop spongy properties and have excellent insulating properties. It is also heat-resistant, even at particularly high temperatures. Thus, it brings all the qualities that a light table grill should have!

Japanese craftsmanship comes to the fore in the manufacture of the grills. They are handmade and therefore constantly checked for their excellent quality. The high-quality finish guarantees lifelong enjoyment with the Konro Grill. The assembled diatomaceous earth stones are either held together by mortar or by the precise threading of the stones through the highest level of craftsmanship. The diatoms withstand temperatures up to 1000°C after baking. Due to the high heat emission, dripping meat juices cannot easily extinguish the embers. To experience an excellent grilling experience, we therefore recommend very special charcoal: Binchotan charcoal.
